Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort
The Baobab Golf Course at Vipingo Ridge is one of Kenyas’ newest golf courses and has been built to international standards, with the world renowned USGA specification being used for all aspects of the course. The location of the course, having spectacular views of the Indian Ocean to the east and the vast African interior with its stunning sunsets to the west, gives golfers a fantastic visual of one of the most impressive areas of natural beauty in Kenya. The course was designed by David Jones, a board member of the European Tour and former Kenya Open Champion and was also officially opened by him during an inaugural ceremony in August 2009. A meandering system of waterfalls, lakes and streams runs through the course giving a real risk-reward quality to many holes and also creating new natural habitats for birds and wildlife. A computerized and fully automated irrigation system, fine Bermuda grass throughout the fairways and the greens, and state-of-the-art green-keeping equipment, guarantee that the undulating course is in great condition at all times. Extensive fairway modeling and the planting of thousands of new trees has ensured that every hole has strategic elements to bring interest and enjoyment to ones game. Endorsed by Ian Woosnam OBE, a former world no 1 and US Masters winner, The Baobab course at Vipingo Ridge brings an unparalleled new dimension to golf in East Africa.
Ian Woosnam
Ian Woosnam OBE, Former World No 1, US Masters winner and 2006 Ryder Cup European Captain said: “The developers of Vipingo Ridge, Kenya are friends of mine and mentioned this project to me over two years ago. When I heard about this development in such a spectacular location, I decided it was too good an opportunity to miss and have decided to own a property there to enjoy everything Kenya has to offer. I remember that when I played the Safari Tour, in my early years as a Tour Pro, Kenya was the stop that all the players loved, a great country with a great tradition of golf. I have very fond memories of Kenya and it was especially nice to win the Kenya Open in 1986 ”
Baobab Course
Nestling between the coast and the green hills of Kenya, a landscape of amazing natural beauty provides the spectacular setting for Vipingo Ridge, the newest and most striking addition to Africa’s great courses. The capricious Kaskazi and Kuzi monsoon breezes make this 72 par course a challenge and a delight for every golfer. A meandering system of waterfalls, lakes and streams run through the course giving a real risk-reward quality to many holes and also creating new natural habitats for birds and wildlife. Extensive fairway modeling and the planting of thousands of new indigenous trees ensure that every hole has strategic elements to bring interest and enjoyment for all golfers. Vipingo Ridge brings an unparalleled new dimension to golf in East Africa. Built to the most exacting international standards, the course has spectacular panoramic views of the Indian Ocean to the east and the vast African interior with its stunning sunsets to the west.

About The Vipingo Area
Vipingo is the new Nyali, bigger and better. Formerly a mainly sisal plantation area, its now home to prime and exclusive homes (with owners such as the former Vice President, world-famous golfers, UN staff, and the like) and the famous Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort. Vipingo has a great climate, rolling hills, the ocean, and a peaceful, rich feeling to it. It is about 25 kilometers from Mombasa to it’s south, and very close to Kilifi to it’s north, where you will find the likes of Mnarani Resort by the ocean and the Kilifi Boat Yard where you can learn sailing and more. Kilifi has also been earmarked as one of the country’s 3 resort cities in the government’s Vision 2030 plan, which means that Vipingo is poised for greater heights and values in the very near future.
The main beaches in the Vipingo area are Vipingo Beach and the quiet and secluded Kuruwitu Beach.
Fly540 now flys directly to Vipingo from Nairobi, so no need to kill time travelling from Moi International Airport in Mombasa. You can land literally a few minutes away from your property.
Income Potential
As we mentioned above, Vipingo is now home to prime properties. The rental yields are also quite high. Have a look at what some of the houses are charging below (source: sleepout.co.ke):
As you can see above, the prime homes are renting for upwards of KSH 18,000 per night! Let’s put it this way: Vipingo is set to become the new Muthaiga of the Mombasa-Kilifi region, and right now, it is mostly empty. This is the time to buy, before it is mostly full and unaffordable. Our advise: strike now, while it is relatively cheap!
PLUS: PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR THE GROUNDBREAKING OF THE RONALD NGALA UTALII COLLEGE, MOMBASA, IN VIPINGO
(Date Published: 18 Feb 2013)
According to the Ministry of Tourism’s official website, establishment of the Ronald Ngala Utalii College Mombasa could soon become a reality. This follows the development of a model that depicts how the institution will look like and the ongoing plans for a ground breaking ceremony. Tourism Permanent Secretary Ambassador Ruth Solitei inspected the model as designers continued with final touches on what is to become one of the country’s best training institutions in tourism and hospitality at the Coast.
The Construction of the college is being undertaken by the Tourism Fund, formerly the Catering Tourism and Development Levy Trustees (CTDLT ).
The Multi million project to be put up on a 60 acre piece of land is expected to boost tourism and hospitality services at the coast while at the same time easing pressure on the Utalii College in Nairobi. The institution will offer training and refresher courses to students and staff within the hospitality industry.
Among the features in the new institution as depicted by the model include sporting facilities, swimming , housing facilities that include two and three bed room flats, and mansions for the institution’s staff.Tourism Fund CEO Mr. Allan Chenane who is overseeing the design work said the community around the institution will also be advised to put up hostels for those who will want to live outside the college.
The Kenya Utalii College is currently the leading trainer in tourism and hospitality services in East and Central Africa. The college is also a certified centre of excellence in hospitality and tourism training in Africa. Currently the institution runs other satellite campuses in Mombasa and Kisumu.
