Colourful Spaces: Tokyo Home

WORDS Mary Garner

The exciting interior of this suburban Tokyo home, featuring a patchwork design of seven different colours, was put together by Kochi Architect’s Studio.

The interior firm made use of asymmetrical plywood planes, differentiating each separate space with pops of colour.

New lines of sight were created throughout the small home, which was separated into a range of patchwork-style areas. This technique, as well as the use of seven colours, helped to create the illusion of a bigger space, distinguishing between each of the rooms. It is this graphic quality that gives the home an innovative density.

The studio’s aim was to produce scenery within the home, where you are able to see into different spaces from one viewpoint.
